Sunday School
Jesus said, "Let the little children
come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that
the kingdom of heaven belongs."
Matthew 19:14, NRSV
Children
are a significant focus of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. We
welcome and include them in our worship, education, celebration, outreach,
and all that we do.
All children find a warm, caring welcome here.
Our Sunday School is the central channel through which we provide the
transforming experiences we want our children to have. Reading
Bible stories, learning the teachings of Jesus, and having fun with crafts
and music contribute to the experience. Through life application
learning, Christian fellowship, and worship we lead them to discover
Jesus as a friend and teacher, and that caring for others enriches daily
life.
We also reach the children of our community.
Each year, we provide Easter baskets to New York's children through
the Yorkville Common Pantry. And we provide summer camp scholarships
with funding from our rummage sales. Our Sunday School children are
active participants in these projects, and gain a
sense of social responsibility through them.
Our Sunday School staff includes paid professionals and volunteers.
All are experienced, loving people committed to this important task.
Professional child care is provided for infants and toddlers as well.
As we try to guide them, our children teach us the important, invaluable
things: wonder, joy, hope, faith, innocence, and love.
