Dear Rev. Shillady and Rev. Lamar-Sterling:
I am deeply grateful for your continuing support of
the mission of the United Methodist City Society. There is greatness
in every gift, particularly when your financial support makes it possible
for the Unite Methodist City Society to make a difference in the city
through local church and project development in a variety of ways.
Through the years, Park Avenue United Methodist Church
has been an outstanding beacon of hope to our work, and I thank you for
allowing God through you to participate in our lives in a significant
way.
For your good will of caring and sharing during this
Holiday Season, may the peace of God be with you always.
I am, Sincerely,
Clyde A. Anderson, Executive Director/CEO
Yorkville Common Pantry
Dear Bill and Sara,
The Yorkville Common Pantry very gratefully acknowledges
receipt on December 15, 2004 of $3,300.000 contribution from Park Avenue
United Methodist Church and $2,305 designated gifts from church members. No
goods or services were provided for these gifts.
It is a great pleasure to be so closely associated
with PAUMC and its two wonderful leaders and we greatly appreciate
all the support we receive from the church family. Thanks again Sara
for leading the PAUMC Christmas volunteers.
Best wishes,
Jeffrey Ambers, Executive Director
Habitat for Humanity
Dear Bill:
We received your gift of $3,300 on 12/20/04 for Habitat
for Humanity’s work in New York City. Thank you very much for your
generous support, which makes it possible for us to build simple, decent
homes for and with families in need. Habitat-NYC is not a giveaway
program, but we provide first-time ownership on terms low-income families
can afford. Our families volunteer “sweat-equity” in
place of a financial down-payment, and buy their homes for a 0% mortgage.
Our new advocacy department is working to raise awareness
of the critical need for affordable housing in our city, and our Construction
Department is working to address that need by building simple, decent
homes in four boroughs with the help of 10,000 volunteers annually.
In Manhattan, 10 Harlem homes have just been completed.
We celebrated our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. build there in January
2004 with Al Roker broadcasting from NBC’s Today Show. In May 2004,
we celebrated our Women Build there, with Susan Sarandon as event chair
and Dianne Sawyer and Robin Roberts, co-hosts of ABC’s Good Morning
America, airing a piece from the site.
In Queens we are breaking ground for 6 timber-frame
homes that will allow Habitat-NYC volunteers to “raise the roof.”
In the Bronx, we have completed 13 new homes in the Mott Haven section.
In Brooklyn, we are developing 6 new homes to add to our Habitat-NYC community
in Bedford-Stuyvesant, which already has brought the American dream of homeownership
to 32 families.
Thank you for helping us to provide these opportunities
for so many New York City families.
Sincerely,
Roland Lewis, Executive Director
Hudson Link for Higher Education
Dear Rev. Shillady,
Thank you for your contribution in support of the mission
of Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison. Your donation of
$3150.00 will help to assist the men at Sing Sing Correctional Facility
to prepare themselves for more constructive and meaningful lives now
and in the future. Thanks to your generosity, our students will
continue to reach for the key to a successful future and education.
Reflecting on the importance of attending college,
one of our students commented: “Education is important to me
because it allows others, as well as myself, a chance to do productive
things with our lives. It is also of importance because many of us in
the Hudson Link program have children and without furthering our own
education, we would be unable to help our children with their education.” All
the students join with the Hudson Link Board and staff in thanking you
for your support.
Your entire contribution is tax deductible. No
goods or services were received in return for this contribution. Hudson
Link for Higher Education in Prison, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.
Very truly yours,
Anne Reissner
