HomeWays To Connect

Park Avenue United Methodist Women

...a community of women whose purpose is to know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative and supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The First Annual UMW Retreat Was A Success!...June 17th, 13 women set off to Camp Olmsted, and the little town of Cornwall on the Hudson, for a break from the City, fellowship, study and fun. Our theme was "Contemplation and Action" and we drew inspiration from the stories of Martha and Mary (Luke 10: 38-42), Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:7-41) and a modern day, true story of 70 women from Sierra Leone so inspired in their study of the scriptures that they resolved to be catalysts for change in their country's political system--dangerous and couragious action on their part!  Time was made for a pizza party, good conversation, laughs and walks along the Hudson, concluding Saturday with a brainstorming session of ideas for future mission projects, fundraising  and fellowship & study opportunities.

Missed this retreat?  Stay tuned for a future retreat opportunity in the Fall...

Park Avenue UMW meet the 3rd Sunday of the month following the 11am service

Coffee Hour Fellowship

Our weekly coffee hours are an important part of the life of the PAUMC congregation. People first come to PAUMC for many reasons, but they often return because of our church family’s warm, welcome and friendly hospitality.  You can play a significant role in creating that feeling of welcome, so please consider joining a coffee hour team. You can write your name on the sign up sheet in the basement or contact the church office directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Outreach & Social Concerns Committee

Mission and outreach are very important to United Methodists – right from the time of John Wesley! This committee supports missions locally and globally by: preparing and presenting the annual mission budget that provides funding for a variety of mission projects, sponsors volunteers on mission trips in the U.S. and around the world, hosts receptions and meetings for mission speakers, promotes Six Special Sunday offerings for missions, brings to the attention of the congregation emergency mission needs and offerings (such as Katrina, the tsunami, etc.)

Membership Committee

The mission of the Membership Committee is one of hospitality and fellowship. We are the hospitality team. We really serve two distinct audiences – members and prospective members. Our goal is to make both of these audiences and their guests feel welcome, invited and included in the life of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.

The Membership Committee also works to dovetail its efforts with related initiatives spearheaded by other committees. Some activities of the membership committee are as follows:

  • Provide greeters to welcome people to the 11am Sunday worship
  • Celebrations on special Sundays, like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
  • Name tags for members
  • Participation in the “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors” Igniting Ministries marketing campaign
  • T-shirts and pins for new members
  • Pens for visitors and members
  • Print advertising, yellow pages, and banners
  • Annual All-Church Picnic & the Fall Picnic
  • Hosting of events such as the annual Pancake Breakfast held on Palm Sunday
  • Quarterly discussions of the health and trends of PAUMC’s membership
  • Concerted effort by Membership Committee to reach out to members, prospective members, guests and visitors throughout PAUMC activities
